ABOUT IRAQ VOTES

Iraq Votes was produced on location in Baghdad, Iraq, in the weeks before the 2010 Iraq parliamentary election. AP staffers from across the globe contributed to the project. I shot and edited the overview video and voter voices video and built the flash framework that was kept up to date in the month leading up to the election.

The Iraq votes interactive was built in Flash, with photos handled in Photoshop and graphics in Illustrator. The video was shot on the Sony PMW EX1 and the Canon 5D Mark ii and edited in Final Cut Pro.

Voter Voices was produced on location in Baghdad, Iraq, in the weeks before the 2010 Iraq parliamentary election. I shot the video in four different neighborhoods in Baghdad, Iraq. The video was also used as part of the larger Iraq election interactive I produced.

The interactive received the Society of News Design 2010 Quarterly Best of Multimedia Design Winner.

While Iraq was preparing for a pivotal parliamentary election, Hollywood was about to celebrate an independent film about bomb-disposal technicians at the annual Academy Awards. The movie won best picture and best director on the same day as the election.

I spent a week embedded with several explosive ordnance disposal teams before the election and the Oscars to get a sense of how much their roles and their lives had changed since 2004 when the film took place.

While in Iraq I also produced this interactive, which includes the Voter Voices video essay.

On election day in Iraq, I filed to all of AP’s wire services. I phoned in color to the desk in Baghdad, filed photos to the photo wire, filed raw video and soundbites to our video services and produced the above tracked package.

While in Iraq I also produced this interactive, which includes the Voter Voices video essay. I also produced an all-format story about the Hurt Locker in Iraq.

This video is part of the AP premium election product CampaignPlus. The “On The Trail” series features video from the top campaigns in the 2010 midterm elections. This particular video is from the race to fill the U.S. Senate seat left by the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Remote Area Medical used to provide health care to those in need in the third world. Now they set up temporary health clinics in rural America.

AP photographer Evan Vucci and I traveled to Harriman Tenn. and watched people wait in line overnight to get the most basic of medical and dental care. In the end, there were not enough volunteers to handle all of the people that showed up, and some who waited were turned away. We were told this happens at every clinic.

After winning the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the traditional visit to the White House.  They stayed to make care packages for the troops.

ABOUT KILLER BLUE

The documentary video on the soldiers of Killer Troop: Blue Platoon was shot and produced by AP photographer Evan Vucci with photos by Maya Alleruzo. I built the interactive in flash and helped Evan with the final edit.

ABOUT THE AP INAUGURATION INTERACTIVE

More than 8 million streams were provided to 2.3 million unique users viewing the AP live stream of President Barack Obama’s inauguration speech from 8 camera positions on the national mall and along the parade route.

I conceptualized and led the development of the AP?s interactive. I produced the 25 minute documentary on the history of presidential inaugurations and built the archive of past inauguration speeches in all formats.
